About Event

​The upcoming meet of What Next? Dorset will be held at the Garden Room at the Museum of East Dorset and online.

Chair: Kate Wood, Artistic & Executive Director at Activate Performing Arts

Activate produce live performance events in Dorset with the highlight being their biennial Inside Out Festival. They also support freelance creatives and are leading on Nature Calling, an initiative putting creative projects into National Landscapes across the UK. Activate receive core funding from Arts Council England, Dorset Council and BCP Council.

Speakers:  Vikki Slade, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole

Vikki Slade has lived in Broadstone for over 25 years and has experience in finance, business, the NHS, and the charity sector. She was elected Leader of BCP Council in 2019 and has been the MP for mid Dorset and North Poole since 2024. She is passionate about local issues, and is committed to revitalising high streets, improving public transport, supporting special education, and ensuring better care for older people.

Ed Viney, a theatre director, writer and producer based in Dorchester.

Ed has worked at the RSC and National Theatre, and created The Script’s The Thing with Dorchester Arts to shine a light on scriptwriting for theatre, film, tv and radio. His new play Potlicker opens at Lighthouse Poole on 12th March.

Kristina Broughton is the CEO of Wessex Museums, which runs a cultural programme for seven museums in Dorset and Wiltshire, including Dorset Museum & Art Gallery and Poole Museum.

Wessex Museums receives core funding from Arts Council England. Most recently, they curated the Elisabeth Frink exhibition which toured three museums including Dorset Museum. Kristina has just been appointed to the new role of Strategic Director for the International Council of Museums, supporting museums across the world.

Phil Hallett is CEO of Coda. Coda are based just outside Christchurch and work across Dorset and Hampshire.

They run activities for people to take part in music and art activities, including in a therapeutic setting. Phil is a specialist in arts education having worked at Southbank Centre and English National Opera.

What Next? Dorset is a space to share, debate and take action on issues facing the local and national culture sector. Open to everyone working in and connected to the creative and culture sector in Dorset.
