Title: Welcome to OTel California: The Future of Observability
Presented by: Dondy Aponte
Description:
OpenTelemetry (OTel) is rapidly emerging as the industry standard for collecting processing and exporting telemetry data but what makes it so powerful and is it the right fit for every organization? In this session we’ll break down what OTel is why it has gained traction as the preferred observability framework and the strengths that make it a compelling choice for modern architectures. We’ll also take a candid look at its limitations—where it excels where it still has gaps and what to consider before making the switch. Finally we’ll explore strategies for driving OTel adoption within your team or organization addressing both technical and cultural challenges. Whether you’re new to OTel or looking for ways to advocate for its adoption this talk will give you the insights you need to navigate the path forward. Welcome to OTel California—where your telemetry data always checks in but it never gets lost

About Dondy:

Title: Nix 'em All - let the dependency resolver sort them out
Presented by: David Seddon
Description:
This presentation is a 90 mile per hour introduction to Nix, a functional build system that is both reliable and reproducible. After describing the system and it background David jumps into various use cases including Linux, MacOS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Raspberry Pi deployments. The talk also covers interfacing with various progamming languages including Python and Golang.

About David:
Dave Seddon is a tech enthusiast who has worked in the video streaming space for over twenty years. Dave originally got his CCNA in 1998, had his first 100Mb/s BGP session with WorldCom back in ~2002 ( Worldcom went broke a few weeks later ), and he is excited to discuss Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) with the LA DevOps Community.

About O'Brien's Pub on Wilshire:
The covered patio at Obrien's Pub has been a great place to host LA DevOps meetups during our post covid revival.
