About the speakers
Puiyan Leung
Puiyan Leung serves as Partner, Investment in Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India and focuses on opportunities in Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining Vertex Ventures, Puiyan was a Director of Investments and Operations at Singtel Innov8, the corporate venture arm of telco group Singtel. In her role, she built a pipeline of tech startups that fit with the firm’s investment themes and established strategic alliance and managed partnerships with key ecosystem stakeholders.
Prior to that, Puiyan assumed a range of operating roles and once served as Singtel’s Indonesia-based lead in representing the local market development and expansion interests for Singtel’s digital portfolio.
Puiyan is a Kauffman fellow and graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree from the National University of Singapore.
Joseph Phua
Joseph Phua is the chairman and cofounder of VVSEA&I portfolio company, 17LIVE Inc., a social live-streaming platform. He also holds concurrent roles as Chairman at Turn Capital and the SoundOn Group and has recently started the fast-growing Next Apple News media platform.
Prior to this, he founded Paktor, a pioneering dating app that has expanded beyond Singapore to the rest of Southeast Asia and North Asia, to form the largest social dating group in the region. Joseph holds a BSc in Finance from NYU Stern, and an MBA from Chicago Booth.
Clement Parazon
Clement Parazon, runs VC and start-up partnerships for Southeast Asia for Google, based in Singapore. He has extensive experience in tech, including investment banking, running his own start-up and leading Commerce and Entertainment enterprise partnerships for Google in APAC. He has a very interesting vantage from which to connect the supply and demand sides of capital in the early stage ecosystem. Clement has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from France’s “Ecole des Mines” and is the proud dad of 2 French-Italian-Australian daughters.
