LFC.DEV - Hackathon w/ Banc of California & Bloomberg Beta @ Fractal Tech
Join us for our first hackathon on Jan 18th in NYC! Sponsored by Banc of California and Bloomberg Beta hosted at Fractal Tech! The goal will be to build something on top of Bluesky’s AT Protocol firehose or Jetstream.
Don’t feel you’re technical enough to build something? Come and try your hand at using AI coding tools like Cursor or Windsurf. All code written here should be MIT licensed so that team members can continue to build on it after the event. We will invite Externs from past batches of Fractal Tech to join us and lend a hand to get projects a bit further along.
Timeline:
9:30 AM show up
10:00 AM 2 minute pitches of your ideas start. People join to form teams.
Build Build Build
4:30 PM Start wrapping up. Demos start shortly.
5:00 PM Demos! No pitching, show the thing working. 3 minutes per team.
6:00 PM Wrap up and go grab dinner / beer with your new found teammates.
Thank you to Fractal Tech for hosting the event!
Please make sure you have signed up for LFC.DEV prior to applying to attend this event.
If you are not approved for the event, please don't try and sneak in, we will be checking RSVPs at the door.
Need an idea for what to build? Here is what Blue Sky themselves are asking people to build: https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto/discussions/3049 Given that Bluesky is kind of Twitter 2.0, you can look into what was built successfully on top of Twitter back in the day.
We will be judging projects to pick the best one in each of the following categories:
Best Bluesky fun project
Best Bluesky overall
Best Bluesky insight (find some cool data within the firehose)
Best Bootstrapped potential
Best VC scale project
Judges for this event will be:
Tamas Kadar (also known as Sarah, online handle Alice) - Bluesky Community Developer (independent)
John Bryson - Banc Of California (Sponsor)
Lori Berenberg - Bloomberg Beta (Sponsor)
In the event of a 3 way tie for a given prize, we will do a loudest crowd support for a tiebreaker.
Additionally, here are some things people have built so far to get the creative juices flowing:

No banking fees for first 2 years (idea stage pre-seed seed)
High yield savings
Every client of Banc of California’s Venture Banking group is assigned a client services representative (direct dial / email – no 1800 number)
