Learning Event 2024: Raphael Ajima
What it takes to change a Community: Social Development and Enterprise in the Global South.
Ajima hails from the university town of Nsukka, Nigeria. At a young age, he realized his passion for Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, and in so doing, participates in cross-cutting development initiatives that span Africa, the Americas, and Europe. He is overtly inspired by servant leadership and has contributed to diverse Learning Partnership groups and panels on healthcare, youth employment, and digital technology.
Ajima is the Program Manager of the Biological and Biomedical Engineering (BBME) Non-thesis - Biomanufacturing graduate program at McGill University. The graduate program provides training and capacity-building in sustainable biomanufacturing in Canada and globally. He is also a co-founder of Ahegel Technologies Ltd. (Ahegel). Based in Nigeria, Ahegel provides software engineering solutions in Edtech, Healthtech, and analytics. One of the products currently piloted is a telehealth social enterprise, Homnics, that builds on a community development initiative. Homnics improves access to healthcare and health education through telehealth.
Ajima has previously worked as a Program Associate for the Mastercard Foundation Transitions Project (MCF-TP) at McGill and with other organizations such as the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Ecom Agro-industry Ltd in Ghana. He completed his studies at McGill University as a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, graduating with honours in International Development and Social Entrepreneurship.
