CHS (2022) Season 2 - Week 5
Aloha Everyone,
SHAB has begun to utilize this platform to integrate and streamline the herbal series. You can go directly to zoom from here too!
This weekly virtual meeting is an open-source learning community where we gather in reverence to learn about herbalism and ethnobotany through several traditional plant medicine systems. Each week a new teacher will share the plants used in their pharmacopeia, healing traditions, and/or perspectives.
Healing From a Native Perspective: La'au Lapa'au (Hawaiian Medicine)
Week 5 of the Community Herbal Series features an amazing special guest Keoki Kīkaha Pai Baclayon. Keoki spoke during the 1st Community Herbal Series, if you missed him last season this upcoming get-together will be PLANTABULOUS!
Keoki trained in traditional medicine from Kahuna lā’au lapaʻau Levon Ohai, Emmett Keao, and the House of Waitata.
Keoki is an advocate for the preservation and innovation of Hawaiian medicinal practices; he is the lāʻau lapaʻau instructor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He has taught lāʻau lapaʻau since 2009 at Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies. This path has taken him to teach in academia and the community. Keoki practices lāʻau lapaʻau at the Waimānalo Health Clinic on the Windward side of O’ahu, which encourages the integration of traditional medicine through their Cultural Health Program and co-instructs the ʻĒwekea Piʻi Moʻo Lā’au Lapaʻau herbal medicine restoration project. He is passionate about personal health sovereignty, unifying the health of our local communities through the sharing and demonstrating of moʻomeheu ola (cultural ways of healthy living), and making everyone a healer in their own homes.
