Making Projects Pencil: Understanding Housing Finance for Better Advocacy
Open New York's Learning Studio is a monthly series for members to discuss and learn together. We have pizza, meet new friends, and build our collective knowledge base for our advocacy!
What makes a development financially viable- or not? Join Open New York members Bobby Gorrill and Jesse Lang for a hands-on workshop that demystifies how housing projects are financed.
This session will give you a clearer understanding of the trade-offs in housing development, as well as practical language to use when engaging with community boards and elected officials. You'll even get to try your hand at pulling the financial levers to make an example project pencil out.
This is a space for learning. No finance background needed- just curiosity and a willingness to wrestle with real-world housing dilemmas.
