Blockchain for Good Breakout Room @EthCC
🚨 Decentralized Tools for Humanitarian Action and Development Aid 🆘
An EthCC[8] Breakout Session
How are blockchain, tokens, and decentralized tools actually being used today to reshape humanitarian crisis response and development aid across the globe?
After the spectacular showcase of solidarity following the invasion in Ukraine, how can the Web3 community help NGOs reinvent themselves in the face of a global humanitarian funding drop from $212 billion in 2024 to $60 billion less in 2025?
Can this looming catastrophe — with devastating consequences for those who need help the most, especially as conflicts and instability intensify around the globe — become an opportunity to hack humanitarian action and the aid system altogether?
Devs, smart contract wizards, protocol hackers,
Governance nerds, community builders, and coordination maximalists,
Cryptographers, economists, protocol theorists,
Those here for the vibes or the purpose,
Join forces with humanitarian experts who will share their current use cases and biggest problems
...come with your ideas, your questions, your curiosity, and your perspective — this session is about building bridges between ecosystems and igniting new ideas.
Two key questions will guide our conversation:
1. What can decentralized tools improve about what NGOs are already doing today?
2. What entirely new possibilities do these tools unlock — things that simply weren’t possible before?
Yes, we’ll talk about decentralized finance, funding flows, and aid mechanisms but we’ll also explore non-financial decentralized tools that allow, for instance, resilient, credibly-neutral communication in conflict areas to facilitate deconfliction, or digital identity for stateless people to access and exert their rights.
Join us for a breakout session in the spirit of Ethereum’s early days: no recordings, no slides — just open dialogue, shared experience, collective intelligence, and radical collaboration.
We’ll be sitting in a circle for this session, hosted by three members of The Blockchain for Good Association (yes, the French one 😉) Pierre, Alexandra, and Jacques-André, joined by several inspiring changemakers from humanitarian and development organizations, such as UNICEF, the French Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, and Mercy Corps Ventures.
