What Young Founders Are Working On?

"Oh wow, like physics is saying that our life outcomes were baked in the cake from the Big Bang? Like what does that mean for free will, AI (and AGI) and the future of investment management?

You’re invited to join us in Stamford CT on Friday morning March 28th, from 8-11am, for our “Midnight in the Dorm” edition. As always, our sessions are by invitation, in-person and free-of-charge.

Book Talk and Signing
Kicking off the March Forum is Samir Varma, a Greenwich-based hedge fund founder and entrepreneur with a Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics. He has just published an entertaining, highly readable book for everyday folks, The Science of Free Will: How Determinism Affects Everything from the Future of AI to Traffic to God to Bees.

If you find yourself on the “Free Will” side of this debate, hang on. There may be more to free will than you think baked into this “deterministic” cake. We’ll also spend a good portion of the talk considering ways AI is likely to impact the future of investment management.

The talk will be followed by a book signing during the break, with free copies for Premium Members.

Game Show: What’s My Project?

For our second session, instead of another five minute elevator pitch from start-ups (been there, done that) we’re going to take some youthful founders (even pre-founders) and subject them to our expert panel who will try to guess what they’re working on.

About Samir Varma

A Connecticut resident since 1998, Samir is founder of VS Asset Management and co-founder of Palm Energy Systems, among other roles.

He earned a Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics from UT Austin where Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg served on his dissertation committee, as well as a BS in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University.

Samir brings a deep understanding of fundamental physics to bear on both practical and philosophical questions. His new book, The Science of Free Will, brings fresh insights into age-old questions about free will, while also addressing the urgent implications for AI ethics and human agency in an increasingly technological world that is already impacting the investment industry.
