Vancouver Service Jam 2025
Join Jammers around the world to work simultaneously for only 48 hours (or less!) and prototype services inspired by a secret global theme.
Come join us for 48 hours of interactive learning and doing, where you will learn Service Design processes and methods through a series of hands-on activities led by Service Design BC and Vancouver Design Community.
We look forward to hosting you and jamming with you along with the Global Service Jam community.
When will the Vancouver Service Jam 2025 take place?
Day 1: Friday, Feb 21, 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Meet your local innovators, form teams, and pick a starting point inspired by a secret global theme.
Day 2: Saturday, Feb 22, 10 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Go out into the real world to discover insights and use them to start building something new
Day 3: Sunday, Feb 23, 10 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Collaborate with your team to improve your prototype and share it with people in your community and the world.
During this weekend, participants will form groups to work together on a project and present a prototype. For that reason, please make sure you can commit to the entire weekend or at least fully on Day 2 + Day 3.
What is a Jam?
A jam is a hands-on event where you learn to design services inspired by a secret global theme. You'll be working with people you might never have met before, bouncing insights and ideas off one another and building on what bounces back. And it's not just talking - you are here to build a functioning prototype and plan of action that you or somebody else might want to develop further. Can you prototype and plan in a way that someone could push the process of exploration further, knowing what resources they would need, what they should do, and who they should talk to? That's the challenge of the Jam.
Who is it for?
Anyone can take part. You just need to be interested in creativity with an open, enquiring mind. People interested in service and customer experience will meet at locations all over the globe.
They could be HR professionals, health professionals, designers, students, gov employees, business owners, researchers, academics, and more!
Why should I participate?
As a participant in a Global Jam, you will work through a whole design process in one weekend. Whether you are experienced or completely new to the field, you won't just be talking about service design, you will be working with others on developing concrete ideas and designs that could become real.
Furthermore:
You will learn more about a design-based approach to problems, and about sustainability.
You will pick up a load of new ideas and work practices.
You will meet a lot of cool people at all levels of experience.
Your work and ideas will be reviewed by your peers, and presented to the world, where they can be seen by potential customers or employers, or people who could make them real.
You will design something that may become a real business.
You might get rich and famous.
You will certainly have a blast.
Is the venue accessible to those with a wheelchair or mobility issues?
FriendsQuarters has a back entrance for 111, which is on street level and goes out to the back alley. This will be the main space we will use. The door is wide enough to allow a standard wheelchair to come through. Please email us if you need assistance prior to the event, vancouverservicejam@gmail.com
We also have access to room 222 for breakout spaces for teams, but this is not really accessible with a wheelchair though, since it has steps on every entrance. We would recommend those with mobility issues to use the main floor with their teams. 😊
Will there be food and drinks at the event?
Snacks and Refreshments will be provided throughout the weekend. Lunch will be provided for Saturday. We will confirm if we will provide lunch on Sunday at a closer date through email, but otherwise there are many restaurants nearby.
If you have any questions, feel free to email vancouverservicejam@gmail.com
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors OXD, FriendsQuarters and Code for Canada for supporting our event!
We look forward to hosting you and jamming with you along with the Global Service Jam community!
