About Event

Presented by the Canadian Film Centre with support from presenting sponsor TD Bank Group (TD), CFC Conversations: Black Excellence with 40 Acres is your invitation to join a pivotal moment in Canadian film—an evening that puts Black talent front and centre.

Hear from a visionary whose work reshapes our cultural landscape. Jennifer Holness—award-winning writer, producer, director, and the first Black woman in Canada to win a CSA for writing—co-produced 40 Acres, which premiered at TIFF ’24.

Now joined by two exciting new guests, 40 Acres cast members Milcania Diaz-Rojas and Kataem O’Connor. Milcania Diaz-Rojas, rising actor and writer and alum of the CFC’s Actors Conservatory, has appeared in productions such as SHARE (HBO), The Bold Type (Freeform), and Slip (Roku), and earned multiple Best Actress awards for her debut short film ZURY. Kataem Enoth-Luwunzu O’Connor is a Toronto-born actor, model, musician who began performing professionally at age 10. His screen credits include Murdoch Mysteries, The Way Home, Kim’s Convenience, and Degrassi

Moderated by CFC Executive Director maxine bailey, this intimate, hour-long conversation discusses artistic risk, industry advocacy, and the art of building space for Black stories.
