Navigating AI Native Development

AI is reshaping the way we build software, shifting from code-centric to spec-centric development, where developers define what they want, and AI determines how to achieve it. But how do we get there? In this session, we’ll explore what AI Native Development means, why it’s worth pursuing, and how we can apply lessons from cloud-native and DevOps transformations to make it a reality. We’ll also look at the practical side understanding how the craft of prompt engineering can help us refine structured specifications to improve results. By experimenting with different prompting techniques and validation methods, you’ll gain actionable strategies for guiding AI tools more effectively.

Simon Maple - Developer Relations at Tessl

Simon Maple is the Founding Developer Advocate at Tessl, previously the Field CTO, and VP Developer Relations at Snyk, ZeroTurnaround, and IBM. He has been a Java Champion since 2014, JavaOne Rockstar speaker in 2014 and 2017, Duke’s Choice award winner, Virtual JUG founder and organiser, and London Java Community co-leader. He is an experienced speaker, having presented at most large conferences in the Java and Security spaces.

Beyond Vibe Coding: AI Code Assistance for Production Software

AI code assistants like GitHub Copilot & Cursor are already changing the way developers write code. But while early experiments have sparked excitement, many teams are still stuck in the “vibe coding” phase. Tinkering without direction, clear outcomes, or guardrails. This talk is for engineering leaders and practitioners who want to move past the novelty and start using AI code assistance deliberately, safely, and effectively for production-grade software development. We’ll explore practical patterns for adoption in enterprise environments, highlight real-world lessons from early pilots, and show how these tools can be embedded into modern SDLCs without sacrificing code quality, security, or team collaboration.
