About Event

On Women’s Day, we take a trip around the globe to hear from women leaders who have creatively pushed against structural barriers to gender equality and changed what is possible for women and other marginalized genders in their communities.

From Kenya’s Kajiado County, we will be joined by Purity Gikunda whose Greenland School For Girls offers a safe, discrimination-free space for teenage mothers to continue their education. Esther Nakkazi is joining us from Kampala, Uganda to talk about her organization Health Journalism Network’s work to train journalists to produce sharp, gender-balanced reporting on science topics. Journalist and women’s rights activist Mariam Atahi will share her years-long journey to document Afghan women’s desires for their lives – an awareness- and community-building initiative that continues to inspire the brave women protesting against the Taliban’s denial of their basic rights today. JHR Executive Director Rachel Pulfer will moderate the discussion.

Join us on Tuesday, March 8, 11am ET onwards.
