Workshop Overview

Join us for an immersive hands-on workshop where you'll learn to build Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers using Rust programming language and integrate them with the Amazon Q CLI.

MCP standardizes how applications provide context to Large Language Models (LLMs), enabling Amazon Q to leverage additional tools and resources that extend its capabilities. By building custom MCP servers, you can create specialized interfaces tailored to your specific use cases and enhance productivity through natural language interactions with AWS services.

What You Will Build

During this practical workshop, you will develop four different MCP servers:

  1. Calculator MCP Server - Perform mathematical operations through natural language

  2. RDS Operator MCP Server - Interact with RDS instances across regions

  3. S3 Operator MCP Server - Interact with S3 buckets

  4. PostgreSQL Operator MCP Server - Query database tables using natural language without writing SQL

Why Choose Rust for MCP Servers?

  • Performance and efficiency with near-native execution

  • Memory safety and reliability through Rust's ownership model

  • Seamless AWS ecosystem integration (Amazon Q CLI is written in Rust)

  • Compilation to native code for easy distribution

  • WebAssembly support for broader deployment options

Prerequisites

  • Basic familiarity with AWS services

  • Laptop with necessary development tools installed (details will be provided to registered participants)

  • AWS account for practical exercises

Important Note: The MCP servers developed in this workshop are intended for learning purposes and are not fully functional or production-ready implementations.

Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your AWS and Rust skills. Register today as spaces are limited to 50 participants!
