​📢 -1 to Now is a recurring speaker series at South Park Commons exploring how the world's best builders and thinkers took their ideas from -1 to 0 and beyond. Join us for the inside stories of their experiments, pivots, and breakthroughs on the way to where they are today.

​Naveen Rao is the former CEO and co-founder of MosaicML, which was acquired by Databricks in 2023 for $1.3B. At Databricks, he oversees Generative AI product groups. Prior to MosaicML, founded Nervana Systems, which was acquired by InteI in 2016. Rao earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Duke University, then spent a decade as a computer architect before going on to earn a Ph.D. in computational neuroscience from Brown University. He has published multiple papers in the area of neural computation in biological systems. Rao has also been granted patents in video compression techniques, with additional patents pending in deep learning hardware and low-precision techniques and in neuromorphic computation.
