Is Education Technology Really Improving Outcomes For Black Children?
Join us at the Thinktank Science Museum for a free, informative and interactive afternoon for parents/carers, educators and the wider community.
Together we’ll learn about how educational apps (EdTech) are being used in Birmingham schools and what issues this raises for children of Black/Black heritage!
Refreshments will be provided. Children are welcome to attend.
Free STEM activities for attendees to enjoy after the main event.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
In 2023, Data, Tech & Black Communities recruited a team of community researchers from Birmingham’s diverse Black communities and supported them to carry out research aimed at finding out which types of EdTech applications are being used in Birmingham schools, which companies provide them and how they handle children’s data.
We also wanted to understand the extent and impact of digital exclusion on children living in economically deprived areas. The researchers spoke with parents, teachers and other community members to find out how they felt about the EdTech applications being used and to establish what forms of scrutiny inform the adoption and use of these technologies.
