"The history of GenAI from Passive to Active" - Shane Gu (Google DeepMind) [ASES Summit]
Join us to hear Dr. Shixiang Shane, a Senior Staff Research Scientist at Google DeepMind who leads the Multilinguality Team in Gemini post-training. His team recently helped launch Gemini 1.5 Pro, which achieved top performance in non-English languages globally. Prior to this, Shane was part of the ChatGPT team at OpenAI, where he co-authored the GPT-4 technical report and led efforts to expand its adoption in international markets, including Japan.
Shane’s work bridges deep learning, reinforcement learning, probabilistic modeling, and robotics. He previously served as a Research Scientist at Google Research (Brain Team) and a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo, where he mentored graduate researchers on cutting-edge machine learning applications. His academic contributions have been recognized with a Best Paper Award at CoRL, the Google Focused Research Award, and the Cambridge-Tübingen PhD Fellowship.
