TwiceTold with Neha Dixit: The Many Lives of Syeda X
The power of a good story multiplies when it's Twice Told. You think you know how the story goes when you read it. But then you hear it again and it's fresh! TwiceTold is proud to host a discussion with Neha Dixit on her latest non-fiction book, The Many Lives of Syeda X. The book is a vivid chronicle of an urban migrant's struggle to survive, played out against the backdrop of Modern India.
Neha's book shines a spotlight on the invisible lives of India’s neglected female home-based workers. After being recognised officially as a distinct category of workers only in 2007, India defined a home-based worker as someone who produces goods or services for an employer from their own home or chosen premises, regardless of whether the employer provides equipment or materials.
Neha Dixit is an independent journalist based out of New Delhi, focusing on the intersection of politics, gender and Social Justice in South Asia. Most of her work is in long-form, investigative and narrative format. She has reported for Al Jazeera, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Outlook, Caravan, Smithsonian, Tehelka, India Today, Foreign Policy, The Wire and others. ‘The Many Lives of Syeda X: The Story of an Unknown Indian.’ is her debut non-fiction book.
The discussion will be led and chaired by Gopal MS, also known as Mumbai Paused. Gopal MS is a photographer and writer who has been documenting life on the streets of Mumbai at mumbaipaused.com for the last 10 years. He loves the city and the stories that spill out on to the streets with limited space. He is also the author of several photo books based on his documentation of the city.
