About The Talk:
Valtteri and Niko, co-founders of Great Apes (Finland), will guide you through their non-linear approach to crafting unique digital and interactive experiences. At Great Apes, they improvise, trust their instincts, and aren’t afraid to scrap their work if they stumble upon a better idea. This intuitive method keeps their work fresh and unique. Expect to learn how embracing flexibility (and a bit of chaos) can lead to innovative information design and data visualization.

About The Speakers:
Valtteri Santala, a co-founder of Great Apes with close to 20 years of experience with digital experiences, is a versatile creator with expertise ranging from design and development to mechanical engineering. At his core, he is a builder driven by a passion for crafting new and unique experiences. Always curious, Valtteri finds inspiration in the world around him, infusing his work with insights gathered from every encounter and observation.

​As one of the pioneers of digital design in Finland, Niko Sipilä has been working commercially in the industry since 1996 when he co-founded his first agency. Before the rise of the internet, he has a long background in the international computer art subculture – the Demoscene. In 2008, Niko co-founded Great Apes which is currently one of the most internationally awarded digital agencies in Finland. Since 2016, Great Apes has been a studio part of Stockholm-based HiQ International. During the past 25 years, he has worked with most categories of digital design from online advertising to complex web services and apps all the way to interactive installations and game interfaces.
