Screening of Gypsy Blood
🎬 Cinema at RnA Studio – Screening of Gypsy Blood
This Thursday, we’re turning RnA Studio into a cinema for a special screening of Gypsy Blood, a film by Francesco Tomba.
About the film;
70,000 years ago humans walked out of Africa and spread through Arabia and Southeast Asia along the coastlines. The first evidence of humans crossing the sea to another island comes from the Lesser Sunda Islands in Southeast Indonesia. Up until that point — and for all of prehistory — they had always traveled on foot. But seeing a faint line of land on the horizon, someone millennia ago chose to risk everything and head out into the unknown. Humans stopped being land-dwelling animals and began to tame the seas. They went on to populate Australia, Micronesia, Polynesia, and the rest of the Pacific — but it all started in a few little islands.
In 2018 I arrived in these very islands with the goal to find a canoe builder who could help me build a traditional dugout canoe, and to follow this same journey. To learn to navigate the sea with the ghosts of our ancestors.
