Energy at the Edge, Digitization and Decentralization! Hosted by Austin Climate Hub, Electron & TerraFive
Distributed Energy resources, Digitization and Decentralization - A Special Happy Hour and Panel hosted by the Austin Climate Hub, Electron and TerraFive
The promise of grid edge solutions in shaping the future of the grid
Rapid load growth, increasing electrification, rising utility rates, and an urgent need for resilience are reshaping the grid. These disruptions pose major challenges, but also create opportunities to reimagine the grid and the very nature of how we produce, consume and manage energy.
Distributed energy resources (DERS) – such as customer sited batteries, EVs, rooftop solar and connected home devices – have significant potential as part of the solution. By embracing digitization, electrification and the inherently decentralized nature of this tech, DERs can be aggregated, networked and coordinated, allowing for the management of electrons and the grid in entirely new models.
Moving beyond the 120 year-old model of centralized generation and distribution, these solutions enable a dynamic, two-way grid, that is inherently more reliable, resilient and affordable, with customers contributing electrons or shifting load through coordinated behind-the-meter batteries, rooftop solar and connected-home devices.
Yet adoption of these urgent solutions in the US significantly lags power markets like Europe and Australia. Policy and market design need to evolve to enable grid edge technologies and the relief they can provide to the grid.
In this panel we convene leading investors, innovators and industry players to explore the technologies, opportunities and policies underpinning DERs and the grid transition. And in a first-ever transatlantic collaboration, we’ll be joined by panelists from both Texas and the United Kingdom, allowing for deeper exploration of the role of policy, economics and market design in the grid transition.
Meet the panelists:
Jo-Jo Hubbard, Co-founder & CEO, Electron, leading provider of software solutions for grid flexibility and zero-carbon grids; fastest growing DER aggregator in the UK.
Michael D’Onofrio, CEO & Founder, TerraFive, serial growth investor and operator at the intersection of technology, sustainability and the built environment.
Hala Ballouz, President & CEO, Electric Power Engineers. EPE partners with power and energy clients across the globe to address complex engineering and grid modeling challenges, bridge gaps, and design and develop the grid of the future.
Leading Texas-based Energy Company and Policy Maker being confirmed and announced momentarily!
