Life on Mars: past, present, future
Bio: Dr. Chris McKay's research focuses on the evolution of the solar system and the origin of life. He is also actively involved in planning for future Mars missions, including human exploration. Dr. McKay has been involved with polar and desert research, traveling to the Antarctic Dry Valleys, the Atacama Desert, the Arctic, and the Namib Desert to conduct research in these Mars-like environments.
Abstract: There is clear evidence of surface water on Mars 3-4 billion years ago, about the same time life appeared on Earth. Was there life on Mars? If so was it a second genesis? Looking to the near future, is the long term human settlement of Mars possible? And In the far future: can Mars be restored to global habitability?
