Inaugural Podcast Book Club™ Meeting
Welcome to the frist meeting of The Podcast Book Club™.
We will discuss Acquired.fm's latest episode on Renaissance Technologies, so make sure you listen to it before coming!
Since this is our first meeting, this will be a casual time to get to know other podcast lovers and discuss Acquired, Jim Simons (RIP), and Renaissance Technologies. There will be no moderated discussions this time, but plenty of great people to meet and free food and drinks.
Here’s how The Podcast Book Club™ generally works:
1) We pick a podcast- most of them will be directly related to topics like venture capital, recent scientific breakthroughs, history, and business generally. Some examples of podcasts we may cover- Sheldon Solomon, Parker Conrad, Xi Jinping's Legacy, Do Technological Innovations Yield Net Gain?, etc.
2) You listen to the podcast. (Important step!)
3) (Optional) You discuss the podcast and other related events/concepts in our Slack. (To get access to the Slack, you need to attend at least one Podcast Book Club™ event.)
4) Once a month, we come together at our venue in the Duboce Triangle to chat about the podcast and eat tacos.
5) Every once in a while (probably 25-50% of the time), I’ll get an expert to come and join the discussion of the podcast.
Q/A
Why opt for podcasts over books? The most important aspects of modern discourse increasingly center on rapidly shifting topics, and podcasts are uniquely able to keep up with this trend. Additionally, it's common knowledge that most book club members don't actually engage with the assigned material, and podcasts should be a lighter lift.
Who should come? We'll be mostly founders and venture capitalists, but absolutely anybody doing interesting things in the world- just fill out the short form to apply.
