FAQ

Who will be coming on the expedition? The total group size is limited to 16 guests, including hosts. Our goal is to create an environment that inspires creativity, introspection, & belonging. All are welcome who feel physically fit enough to join.

I want to see a full video of the route & some of the views? Look no further. It is actually a vlog by the host Rob Auchincloss on the same route with the same guide! For our expedition, the food will be better.

What will I be required to bring? All confirmed guests will receive a packing list upon successful signup.

Where do I fly into? JRO. It is served by Air France, KLM, Emirates, Qatar, Ethiopian, Turkish, among others.

What will I be carrying from day-to-day? You are only required to carry your daypack. The remaining clothes, gear, food, water, etc will be sourced & carried by certified local porters. Most of the Moshi community relies on this work heavily, and we tip them extremely well.

I have heard mixed reviews about the typical supplied food, what will the food be like? In our test expedition, we loved some dishes and loathed others. We will be working closely with the expedition chef to ensure we have as much fresh and local food as possible. We will also be supplementing a ton of food with our friends at Farm to Summit, coffee from our friends at Mount Roasters, electrolytes from our friends at zerolyte, and are happy to accommodate as many personal food restrictions as possible (within reason given the location & timing). If any oil is used for cooking, it will be olive oil.

What about water? All water is sourced from mineral springs on the mountain and then purified by boiling. Plenty will be made available for your hiking needs. Water will also be provided for washing.

What about using the bathroom? There are bathrooms at each proper campsite. Otherwise, you will be squatting in true wilderness.

What is the weather like on Kilimanjaro in early June? Very pleasant - mild days, full sun, rare storms, cooler nights, and minimal snow on the summit.

I have some more questions before I book, who should I ask? find time on our calendar here and lets chat!

What about refunds? The refund policy is as such:

  • 100% refunded within first 72h of purchase

  • 80% refunded up until April 01

  • 40% refunded up until May 15

  • 00% refunded after May 15, but 80% of the value remaining at this point can be transferred to a future AFOCAL event(s) up until May 26.
