You Are Who You See: Opening Reception with Ayaka Matsui Piano Solo
You’re Invited
Join us for an intimate evening featuring the opening reception of You Are Who You See, an exhibition by artist Anushka Patel, and a live piano performance by Ayaka Matsui.
About the Exhibition
You Are Who You See is the debut solo exhibition by Anushka Patel—a visual meditation on identity, memory, and the quiet architecture of relationships.
This body of work reflects on the idea that identity is not a fixed or isolated truth, but a fluid construct, constantly shaped, sculpted, and redefined by those we hold close. Through a series of video portraits focusing solely on the eyes of the people who shape her present, Anushka creates a self-portrait without ever appearing in the frame.
In tracing the invisible imprint of others, You Are Who You See blurs the boundary between self and other. It invites viewers to consider how much of who we are is actually ours, and how much belongs to the echoes, influences, and emotional residues of the people we let in.
About the Performance
Ayaka Matsui returns to New York from Los Angeles to share a live piano performance featuring music from her forthcoming solo album. Her work is rooted in the Japanese philosophy of Ichi-go Ichi-e—“one time, one meeting”—which emphasizes the singular nature of each moment and the beauty of transience.
Reunited with her grand piano and with all of you, Ayaka looks forward to sharing a glimpse of what she’s been creating.
This is a private, invitation-only gathering with limited space. Light refreshments will be served. If you’d like to bring a guest, please reach out to the hosts directly.
We can’t wait to see you there.
