Forests, Housing & Carbon: An Elegant Climate Solution
Based on analysis from NOAA's Global Monitoring Lab, global average atmospheric carbon dioxide was 414.72 parts per million in 2021, setting a new record high despite economic drag from the COVID-19 pandemic. Countless scientists, climate experts, and government officials agree that 350 parts per million is the “safe” level of carbon dioxide -- a level that has been exceeded for decades.
Significantly reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions is the first step to addressing this problem, but in order to help reverse the damage that has already been done, every effort must be made to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it using a long-term solution. Fortunately a number of solutions are being implemented, ranging from improved farming practices to carbon-capture factories. For this presentation, we'll explore the role forests play in carbon storage and how cities like Seattle can best make use of this promising solution.
The speaker for this event will be Rhys Faler, Founder & Board Member of the Arcology Institute.
