Weaponising the Blockchain: Securing Decentralised Systems with Labrys
Join us to hear from blockchain software expert, Taylor Scheel of Labrys, who will bring a technical deep dive into cybersecurity challenges in a decentralised world.
In this talk, Taylor will explore the unintended consequences of permissionless, decentralised, and censorship-resistant technologies—focusing on how they can be both powerful tools for good and potential weapons for harm. Using botnets as a key example, we’ll examine how blockchain technology can be leveraged in ways that may bypass traditional security measures, creating new challenges in cybersecurity.
Beyond that, we’ll dive into an emerging concern: the risks of placing AI agents on blockchains. While decentralisation offers resilience and trust minimisation, it may also introduce novel attack vectors that could be exploited in unpredictable ways. Through real-world case studies and speculative scenarios, this talk will challenge the audience to think critically about how we design and secure decentralised systems—because, like nuclear power, these technologies hold the potential for both incredible benefits and unforeseen dangers.
