Practical Applications of SB1123: Unlocking California’s Next Wave of Starter Homes

Discover how the recently enacted SB1123 is changing the landscape for small-scale homeownership in California! This live virtual event brings together pioneers from CA YIMBY—the visionary advocates and co-authors behind SB1123—and BuildCasa, recognized for spearheading some of the state’s earliest real-world projects under sibling law SB684 in markets like San Diego and Santa Monica.

What You’ll Learn

  • The Origins and Impact of SB1123:
Hear directly from the policy architects at CA YIMBY about the vision, creation, and legislative breakthrough of SB1123—a law designed to unlock affordable homeownership by fast-tracking approval for up to 10 homes on vacant, single-family-zoned parcels.

  • How SB1123 Expands on SB684:
See how SB1123 builds upon the “Starter Home Revitalization Act” framework, opening access to new sites, eliminating subjective design barriers, and extending opportunities to infill and single-family zones alike. Learn about the exclusions, technical requirements, and the objective standards driving permit approvals for homes and subdivisions on smaller lots.

  • Practical Guidance for Developers and Planners:
Walk through eligibility criteria, application strategies, and timelines for successful project submissions. The session will demystify the process and address key legal, planning, and community considerations, ensuring attendees leave with actionable knowledge to take the next step in their communities.

  • City planners and local officials seeking to implement or oversee SB1123/SB684 projects.
