This Is CDR welcomes Dr. Luke Shors and Daniela Hamann-Nazaroff, PE, President and Director of Development, respectively, of Capture6, a pioneering Direct Air Capture company headquartered in California and New Zealand. Capture6 is at the forefront of DAC innovation, offering a unique, water-positive direct air capture (DAC) technology that not only removes CO₂ from the atmosphere but also enhances freshwater availability. By integrating their systems with existing water treatment facilities, Capture6 transforms waste brine into valuable resources, addressing both carbon removal and water scarcity challenges.
Dr. Shors Co-founded Capture6 in 2021 and serves as president. Prior to Capture6 he was the co-founder and executive vice president of the software company Praxik LLC. Luke has worked widely across the fields of energy and the environment, public health and education for groups such as the World Bank, OECD, UNICEF, John Snow and the American Institutes for Research. He was a fellow at Harvard’s Center for Energy and the Environment and completed his doctorate at the Harvard School of Education. Luke has a Masters in Public Health and Masters in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University.
Daniela Hamann-Nazaroff is a licensed Professional Civil and Environmental Engineer in the State of California with over ten years of experience working at the intersection of water and air quality. In her current role as Director of Development, Daniela brings her wealth of experience to support the development of direct air capture (DAC) and water recovery projects from their initial conception through to their operational phases. She currently leads Capture6’s Project Monarch – a California Energy Commission funded DAC project in Palmdale California that is currently under construction.
