Architecture Kata #4
Have you been suddenly thrown into the deep end of designing large systems and felt caught unawares?
Or did you feel stuck with BAU work and want to jump to thinking about the big problems?
Then, join us for an intensive, hands-on Architecture Kata, where you'll exercise and strengthen your system design capabilities. This practical session will put you in the shoes of a startup CTO who is solving a real-world problem and collaborating with a CEO while adapting to evolving business needs. There will be multiple feedback points from senior engineers who have experienced the architectural challenges of scale, complex requirements, and time to market.

Workshop Format & Structure:
Phase 1: Team formation [15 mins]
During this phase, we will form teams of four each.
Phase 2: Kata description [15 mins]
During this phase, we will share the problem statement to design for, and moderators will role-play as the CEO and clarify any questions participants may have.
Phase 3: Design [90 mins]
All the teams will get to work, start collaborating with their team members, and come up with a system design. There will be feedback points where senior developers will review and highlight potential challenges in the architecture.
Phase 4: Review [60 mins | 10 mins per team]
All the groups review each other's approaches and understand the tradeoffs folks took and how seemingly minor changes can have a significant impact.
What to expect?
There is a lot of learning and sharing through collaboration and peer reviews.
What do you need?
We will be doing whiteboard design. Come with a fresh mind, and we’ll take care of the rest.
After the event, we will have an open conversation over lunch and refreshments. We encourage everyone to stay back and interact with as many people as possible. This group is going through a similar journey as yours, and we can all learn from each other.
