Guest speakers:

Fred Busche is the Regional Customer Success Lead at Maptek with focus mine planning. He is a highly experienced mining engineer with a 15-year career spanning across consulting, mine operations, and technology. Since February 2014, he has been a valuable member of the Maptek team, specializing in long-term and strategic planning, with a keen focus on open-pit mining, mine scheduling, and optimization. Beyond his professional pursuits, Fred finds joy in spending quality time with his wife and two daughters, expressing his musical talents, particularly on the guitar, and playing golf.

Ravi Sahu is the Founder and CEO of Strayos, a computer vision and AI software company that combines remote sensing and 3D drone data analytics to deliver mine-to-mill AI solutions. Strayos is deployed in more than 2000 mines. Before founding Strayos, he spent over 12 years working globally with Fortune 500 companies like AT&T, Verizon, and British Telecom in various roles, from product management to building teams for large digital transformation projects. His area of expertise is in Computer Vision, Machine sensor data analytics, and Artificial Intelligence. He holds an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis and a Computer Science engineering degree from India.

Will is a Senior Consulting Engineer at Orica. He started his professional career operating a shovel and a chain saw, laying underground utilities in West Virginia, before graduating to a short stint as a combat engineer in the United States Marine Corps.  Never tiring of playing in the dirt, with $1,000 in his bank account and a very trusting credit card company, he founded and operated a heavy-highway development and sand mining company based in the Carolinas.  Nearly ten years later, thanks to the global financial crisis, he returned to university and obtained a B.S. in Mining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines (CSM).

As a 32-year-old intern with a gold mine in Nevada, Will wasn’t the average college kid.  He was tasked with evaluating methods and benefits for a new technological process at several mines, where he discovered first-hand the challenges of adopting new technologies in a modern mining operation.    He left the internship, flew to Australia, and convinced the owners of a startup to create a position for him.  Over five years, Will helped the founders of this tiny business grow, mature, and exit through a private equity acquisition.

Will started his own company in 2017, partnered with a couple of friends, and created a software product that optimized blasting and grade control practices around the world.  He sold his business to the largest commercial explosives company in the world, and today acts as a senior manager in their technology group.

Will has made and lost money in many businesses through the years, including his construction company, a retaining wall business, a rock and ice guiding company, a blasting consulting company, real estate development endeavors, and a few others he can’t remember.
