When Micro Isn't So Micro
As employers are making plans for return to work, more than 70% of employees from underserved communities are hesitant. A recent survey conducted by The Future Forum discovered that most employees would prefer to remain in a remote setting as the micro-behaviors that were commonly experienced in an office setting drastically decreased.
Microaggressions are one of the most common reasons a person with marginalized identities disengage or leave their place of employment. They are subtle yet harmful behaviors that impact employees’ sense of belonging. How can we identify, mitigate, and respond to these harmful behaviors before they have a lasting impact on engagement?
In this workshop, you will:
Learn the definition of microaggressions and how it impacts you and individuals from underrepresented communities
Reflect on personal perceptions, experiences and teams while exploring the different facets of micro-aggressions and how they show up which includes micro-assaults, micro-invalidations and micro-insults
Examine and practice by using real case scenarios to develop key strategies that create psychological safety
Encourage and promote accountability while being equipped with tools to take action and be an active ally to drive a positive culture and community
