About Event

This a field trip + talk with the team behind folk.computer, a physical computing system.

The first part will be a demo of the folk system at their studio, including example programs and a walkthrough of how the system is programmed.

The second part will “folk tales” : a talk and Q&A unpacking the philosophy behind the project, its history, and other folk...lore. We're leaning into the more esoteric, obscure parts of folk, so even if you've been to an open house or tried folk out before, you’ll still walk away with something new.

Generally this trip is geared towards people who have some context on folk.computer and related projects. If you aren't familiar with either, I'd recommend reading up a little beforehand. Here are some links to get you started: dynamicland.org, Geokit, Dynamicland experiments, folk.computer.

Tickets are limited, and preference will be given to people who people who have shown up to past aci-d club hangs or events, though we will have some slots open for new faces!

Folk Computer is a research & art project, led by Omar Rizwan and Andrés Cuervo, centered around designing new physical computing interfaces.

Folk Computer is developing a new open-source 'physical computing' system, where you operate the computer by moving physical objects around (instead of laptop/phone/mouse/keyboard/touchscreen). The main Folk installations live at Hex House, a shared artist studio space in East Williamsburg.
