Cylch LDN Interview with Lord Neil Kinnock, former Leader of the Labour Party
Born in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, to a coal miner and district nurse, Lord Kinnock was Leader of the Labour Party in Opposition from 1983 to 1992, facing both Margaret Thatcher and John Major. He was a Member of Parliament for twenty-five years, from 1970 to 1995, first for Bedwellty and then Islwyn. He was later Vice-President of the European Commission from 1999 to 2004 and President of Cardiff University until 2009.
Famous for his oratory abilities, Lord Kinnock is widely credited with laying the foundations for the modernisation and electability of Labour.
In this discussion, I will ask Lord Kinnock about industrial relations in the 80s, deindustrialisation in the coal mining communities, devolution, New Labour, the Labour Party today under Keir Starmer, the rise of Reform, and the future of Wales.
You're welcome to join from 18:00. The interview will begin at 18:30 for approximately 45 minutes to an hour, followed by Q&As, and then networking.
I hope to see you there.
