Native Dune Plant Conversations

Metabolic Rifts: Memory of Touch

As Part of our Earth Day Beach Cleanup, artist Alicia Escott will be joining us with her sculptural collaborations with Native dune wildflowers. You are welcome to come meet them and talk with these living plants. Participants hands will be filmed engaging the flowers in an act of deep listening, care and reciprocity.

This is part of an ongoing year long project that began in collaboration with Surfrider San Francisco and Far Out West Community Garden, where Alicia hosted a talk on history of the dune ecology at Ocean Beach. Participants sowed the seeds for these collaborative dune ecology sculptures. Come join us to clean your beach and consider the ways we can restore our native dune ecologies.

This is a unique chance to reach out to the plants before they have bloomed and engage with them in their adolescent years.

Clips from these videos will be part of a larger video installation supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Individual artist Grant. Come reach out to a dune poppy, you just might find it reaches back out to you.
