About Event

** In person only

Both Japan and the U.S. held autumn elections for their respective heads of government, and both enter 2025 with new administrations: first-time Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Japan, and second-term President Donald Trump in the U.S. The countries enter this new era of politics against the backdrop of continuing global conflict in Ukraine and Gaza, growing geopolitical tensions with China, Taiwan, and North Korea, the strong U.S. stock market, the weak value of the Japanese yen, and the uncertainty of the global economy. How will Japan and the U.S. navigate this challenging landscape in the coming year?

Please join us in person for the Japan Society of Northern California’s annual Japan Outlook program on January 29th at 4 p.m. to learn about hot topics for the coming year in Japan and prospects for U.S.-Japan relations.

We are thrilled to welcome Glen S. Fukushima, one of the U.S.’s top Japan experts, as our esteemed speaker this year. Fukushima has extensive experience with U.S.-Asia relations and business leadership in Japan, and has held top public service roles in the U.S. The conversation will be moderated by Board Chair at the Japan Society of Northern California Larry Greenwood
