About Event

Soft Genes 003

Our third meet-up in LA for creatives & technicians interested in biology as an art medium.

This time we bring you a presentation & workshop put on by our community member and biodesign specialist, Margaux Reynolds. Margaux will lead a presentation about her work in the biodesign world and share an ongoing project designing and synthesizing novel materials.

We will then participate in a hands-on workshop and make materials from biological sources together. Demos include holographic biofilm and considerations in working with chitosan and gelatin.

Prepare to get your hands dirty (read: slimy!).

As usual, the event is free and materials are included, but please consider a small contribution for materials on-site.

Margaux Reynolds Bio:

Margaux believes in the power of design to create a better future. She is a Senior Design Strategist at BMW Group Designworks and a Bio Designer, working at the intersection of human innovation and the natural world. About Soft Genes:

Soft Genes connects overlapping worlds in art, academia, and industry to enable tangible production of artwork that involves synthetic biology. Through the creative exchange of materials and skills, we aim to create work on the bleeding edge of what's possible in synbio via interdisciplinary collaboration. Our broader purpose is to educate and inspire advocacy and understanding around synthetic biology and contribute to its larger societal potential.
