Unsent Letter Mailbox Park Prose Pop-Up (Union Square)
Our mailbox is going out into the world!
The Unsent Letter Mailbox is a social invitation to get something off your chest anonymously.
Off of the prompt, " I want you to know this/that..." you can write to anyone or anything. Could be to friends, family, God, a gerbil.
Equal parts catharsis and voyeurism through prose, the idea is to celebrate the power of anonymous storytelling and bask in the perspectives of emotions and life experiences as told through the eyes of New Yorkers.
Drop by and contribute to the fabric of this amazing project with your story while earning the privilege to read an anonymous contribution of a fellow New Yorker.
Artist’s Statement: "NYC is made up of an ecology of strangers. Stacked on top of each other yet likely never to run into each other again.
This thin veil of anonymity can push us into isolation, but it also opens the doors to a different form of empathy: one that comes from a place of radical honesty like we only feel in the comfort of solitude.
What we do with the anonymity of NYC is a big unknown - but there is no doubt that its inherently creative". — Sofia Kavlin
