The Down Low on Bay Area Innovations: Can AI Help the Bay Area Plan for Climate Change? Panel + Mixer
Bay Area communities face significant near and long-term threats from climate hazards such as sea level rise, flooding, drought and extreme heat. As cities, counties, and regional agencies develop plans, how can AI help, or possibly hinder, their creation? Hosted by the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), this panel brings together elected officials, regional agency staff, technologists and academics to discuss what excites – and worries – them about this emerging technology.
Stick around after the panel for a mixer and live demo of the Bay Adapt Currents, a new interactive sea level rise metrics dashboard.
Panelists:
· Mayor Kate Colin, City of San Rafael – Opportunities for AI in local government sea level rise planning
· Sumeet Sandhu, Our Town Hall – Using technology to sustain participation of underserved communities in climate adaptation
· Chris Kennedy, Urban Systems Lab, Climate IQ – Lessons learned from co-producing an AI-driven climate risk tool with local governments
· Janica Mendillo and Kaya Tollas, MTC/ABAG – AI in Plan Bay Area and Regional Planning
Facilitators: Jessica Fain and Dana Brechwald, BCDC
