Bright Moments London Collection Opening Night: FOLIO by Matt DesLauriers

​Bright Moments is pleased to present FOLIO by Matt DesLauriers.

​FOLIO is a generative drawing system, inspired by concrete poetry and early computer artwork, that emits an output process for a given input. Each output may be realized digitally, in print, or through another medium. The drawing system, coded in JavaScript, recursively packs bins of data to fill the page, constrained entirely by the use of typographic glyphs and a limited mono-, duo-, or tri-colour palette. By default, when no input is specified, the program will select a random integer. Each time this code executes, it produces a new and unique piece of art that — if not captured and recorded — will be forever lost, and effectively impossible to recover.

​The code for FOLIO is stored on the Ethereum blockchain, which is also used to distribute and archive 100 limited editions of the artwork. These editions will be minted over three days of the Bright Moments London exhibition in Soho Square. Minting refers to the act of recording and preserving a program input as a transferable and signed digital edition on the blockchain. In each mint operation, a new input hash is generated and assigned to an ERC-721 token, which is then transferred to its new owner. Once the transfer is complete, the hash can be fed into FOLIO, revealing a new piece of art, and preserving it as a digital object on the blockchain.

​Doors open at 7pm. Registration or Matt DesLauriers minting appointment required. Limited capacity, early arrival is encouraged. Entry to the gallery is based on a first come, first served basis, and minting appointments will be prioritized. 

​If you have a scheduled minting appointment, you do not need to register for this event. Scheduling your appointment reserves a minting slot and access to the full exhibition.
