How to see data as socially constructed
Data are not neutral or objective, they are made by you and me.
We interact and transact with one another. We click and post online. We do things out in the world. We engage with institutions. All of which create data. Right, data aren't predictive, they are descriptive and diagnostic of the practices and behaviors of people interacting with one another and institutions at a moment in time.
In this one-hour, free, online, interactive workshop, you will learn:
How to see data as socially constructed.
How to apply it in your working context and map its implications to your strategy.
What it means for how we should think about AI.
I'll also offer a preview of my course, "There is no such thing as a tech problem."

About me: Hi, I'm Charley. I get a kick out of untangling sociotechnical systems. I founded Untangled, a newsletter and podcast about our sociotechnical world, and how to change it. I co-founded The Facilitation Leadership Lab, which helps leaders master the craft of group facilitation. I coach and advise mission-driven CEOs, Executive Directors, and senior leaders to live more impactful and freer lives.
I lead the Public Technology Leadership Collaborative at Data & Society*, a peer-learning collective of scholars, researchers, and government leaders working to ensure data and technology serve the public interest. And I'm a Non-Resident Fellow with the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab.
