watermelon art collective turns ONE! 🥳
We are celebrating this birthday by RECLAIMING JOY at Alte Brotfabrik from 13:00 on 01.06.
As the years have gone by, reports and images from Palestine, Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria and beyond have filled us with despair and grief. But there is resistance in every expression of joy. We want you to let grief rest for a day and come together as a community to celebrate our existence, our ability to resist and feel joy. ✨
We have curated an excellent lineup of artists for our art fair (from 13 to 16:30, free entry) and workshops (limited spots, registration required, €12 minimum per workshop). Our afterparty is supported by our friends at DIARFEST (€12 minimum per person).
Every cent raised from ticket sales and the art fair will be equally donated to the following beneficiaries:
🇦🇫 Qalam Relief – Providing education by building schools, empowering women, delivering clean water and supporting families in Afghanistan
🇵🇸 Yahya Alhamarna – Helping a Palestinian writer move from Gaza to Belgium
🇸🇩 Hope and Haven for Refugees – Helping Sudanese refugees and IDPs seeking safety from war in the Chadian border region of Adré
🇸🇾 Forgotten Women – Helping widowed, divorced and internally displaced women in Syria rebuild their lives after almost 1.5 decades of war
