Advancing Women Leaders Across the Apparel Value Chain [Climate Week NYC 2024 ]
Please join us at Climate Week NYC 2024 to launch an initiative to accelerate women leaders across the global apparel value chain.
We believe that increasing the number of women in leadership positions from the factory floor to the boardroom will create a more sustainable, equitable and resilient future for all.
We have a bold vision that women will be equally represented on the Boards, C-suites and Leadership teams at the world’s leading apparel companies by 2030 – and the companies these women lead are demonstrating meaningful improvement on environmental and social indicators.

This initiative is currently under development by Aurora Collective and co-led by Amina Razvi, former CEO of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (now Cascale), and Anna Adlard, President of Workshop.
PURPOSE
This initiative is in the earliest stages of development, and we are seeking partners, advocates and supporters to join us in launching this effort.
At Climate Week NYC 2024, we are convening a small group of women leaders who represent NGOs, philanthropies, brands and suppliers to coalesce on a vision for this initiative and map out a path forward.
BACKGROUND
Research consistently tells us that increasing the number of women in leadership is a direct path to improving environmental and social outcomes. We also know that women are disproportionately affected by climate change, and they have more at stake.
The apparel industry has a significant environmental impact concentrated in vulnerable regions across the Global South. This outsize impact must be urgently addressed to bring the industry into alignment with the UN’s 2030 climate targets.
The apparel industry is driven by women, but rarely led by women – highlighting a clear opportunity to create change. About 80% of garment workers are women, yet women rarely hold leadership positions in apparel manufacturing. Women are the primary consumers of apparel worldwide, but they remain woefully under-represented on C-suites and Boards in the apparel industry.
