About Event

At the close of 2022, scientist, writer and advocate Dr. Gabrielle Walker delivered a TED Countdown talk titled "What You Need to Know About Carbon Removal". In the two years since the 13-minute video has been viewed nearly 2 million times, and has become must see/share content for the carbon removal curious and committed, worldwide.

But how did Dr. Walker arrive at the final product that she delivered onstage? What were her sources of inspiration and key objectives? What process did she follow to get to ready? And what does she think worked well, and what might she change in hindsight?

In this 1-hour workshop, Dr. Walker will join OpenAir member and science communication expert Bob Sadler for a conversation that will take guests "behind the Ted Talk" and into the mind and process of one of he world's preeminent CDR communicators.

The discussion will focus on practical considerations, steps and guidelines for effective communications, using Dr. Walker's TED talk as a focal point for investigation into this subject. Guests will have the opportunity to ask direct. questions throughout the session.

Dr. Gabrielle Walker is the co-founder of Rethinking Removals and CUR8. She has been working on climate for almost 30 years. She founded Rethinking Removals when she realised that the topic was not on the mainstream climate agenda, despite a growing body of science that shows it is necessary. Gabrielle gives keynote addresses on climate to corporate audiences around the world, moderates high-level debates and works as an advisor at boardroom level. She has presented dozens of TV and radio programs for the BBC, was Climate Change editor at Nature and Features Editor at New Scientist. Gabrielle has a PhD from Cambridge University and is the author of four books.
