Award Ceremony to Celebrate Minority Artists Working on Intersectionality

​On the evening of Thursday 2 November 2023 (7:00PM-8:00PM CET), the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will organize a Ceremony to announce and celebrate the laureates of the Second Edition of the International Art Contest for Minority Artists working on Intersectionality Themes, launched jointly with the NGOs Freemuse and Minority Rights Group International (MRG) and with the support of the City of Geneva.

​The International Art Contest aims to support minority artists working on intersectionality and to celebrate the power of their artistic commitment to raise awareness on pressing human rights themes. “Art can be a powerful tool to fight against racism, intersectional discrimination and promote minority rights when used to increase empathy and understanding. It can celebrate diversity, represent unheard voices and challenge stereotypes through sparking the conversation, educating and informing society,” said Yvonne Apiyo Brändle-Amolo, Chair of the Judges Panel of the 2023 International Art Contest for Minority Artists.

​Opening remarks will be delivered by Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Award Ceremony is also part of the activities to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to celebrate those who every day, each in their own way, take part in the movement for a better and fairer world for all.
