​The Toronto AI Practitioners Network invites you to an evening on foundation models in industry. Foundation models are permanently changing industrial AI across domains as diverse as language, video, biology, materials design, and finance. Join us to learn from AI Practitioners working on the frontier of foundation models!

​Speakers

​Shagun Sodhani is a tech lead at FAIR (AI research at Meta), where he leads a team of researchers to train large-scale foundation models for multimodal data. His day-to-day work involves research, engineering, and partnering with different stakeholders. His long-term research goal is to develop lifelong learning agents that can continually improve as they make decisions in the real world.

​Maryam Fallah is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Recursion. Her team focuses on building foundation models that interpret complex biological data for advancing drug discovery. Maryam holds a master's degree in engineering from the University of Toronto where she focused on Brain Computer Interfaces and designed a communication device controlled via brain signals. She has been working in the healthcare industry as a machine learning engineer focusing on natural language processing and computer vision. Maryam is committed to applying her technical expertise to advance healthcare and improve lives.

​Meg Risdal is a Product Manager at Kaggle, an ML community platform of 17M+ members. She’s also a lead on Gemma, Google’s new family of open LLMs, where she oversees go-to-market and developer experience for the models. Previously, she was a Lead Product Manager at Stack Overflow. Her academic background is in linguistics where she has Master’s degrees from UCLA and North Carolina State University. She’s currently based in Toronto and in her free time she likes to cook, watch movies, and travel.
