What The Book Club: Girls And Women Who Shaped Us
From feisty heroines to flawed yet fearless protagonists, the women we met in books growing up have shaped the way we see ourselves and the world. This edition of What The Book Club is a deep dive into the fictional girls and women who inspired, challenged, and reflected us—sometimes in ways we didn't even realize.
At What The Bookclub, we don't have a fixed book for our meetup. Instead, you choose the book that resonates the most with you regarding the topic 😉 We will curate the questions to facilitate the discussion. This way all attendees leave with a curated "playlist" of books recommended by our community about the topic. You can bring books that you read years ago to something that you just finished, and across any genres.
Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on:
✨ Girlhood & Womanhood – How our sense of self evolved through the characters we admired (or questioned).
✨ Rules & Rebellion – What we were told we could (or couldn’t) do and how fiction shaped those boundaries.
✨ The Madonna-Whore Complex – How media flattens women into archetypes and what that does to our perception of self.
✨ Finding Power – The characters who taught us strength, resilience, and agency.
✨ Representation & Reality – The gaps between how women are portrayed and the complexities of real-life womanhood.
✨ Breaking the Script – How we consciously reject outdated narratives and write our own stories.
Who were the fictional women who shaped you? Let’s revisit them, challenge them, and celebrate them together.
Come ready to share, debate, and maybe even rediscover a character who still lives in you.
Payment: please grab some drinks and food at the cafe & donate to our organisers at the end of the event for organising 🥰
