Minister Takemi will kick off the event with a discussion on healthcare, innovation, and the relationship between Silicon Valley and Japan, followed by an exciting networking session. This event offers a unique opportunity to interact with Minister Takemi, a respected member of the Japanese House of Councilors, and explore important topics, especially those related to healthcare.

Presenter: Keizo Takemi | Minister of Japan’s Health, Labour, and Welfare & Member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the House of Councillors
Keizo Takemi is Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare and a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the House of Councillors. He has chaired the Stop TB Partnership caucus and contributed to WHO’s R&D Financing group. Appointed to the UN High Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth in 2016 and the UHC Financing Advisory Committee for the G20 in 2018, Takemi served as WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Universal Health Coverage from 2019 to 2022 and Co-Chair of the UNDP’s High-Level Advisory Panel for Human Security in 2021. Since assuming office in September 2023, Takemi has been dedicated to advancing health and welfare initiatives both in Japan and globally. His advocacy for R&D financing underscores Japan’s strong pharmaceutical capabilities and commitment to healthcare innovation.
Moderator: Dr. Fumiaki Ikeno | Program Director (US) Japan Biodesign, Stanford Biodesign
After graduating from Jichi Medical University, Dr. Fumiaki Ikeno began practicing general medicine in the rural areas of Japan. He joined the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University in 2001, and became closely involved with the R&D, animal studies, and clinical studies of many medical devices startups. He is also actively involved in projects with the US and Japanese regulatory agencies working to create an effective cross-border medical device eco-system. Dr. Ikeno has also been an advisory faculty for the Stanford Biodesign Program since 2014. He is deeply involved with the development of the Japan Biodesign Program and is working diligently to establish a Silicon Valley-like medical device eco-system in Japan.
