Pitching a book can seem intimidating. You can spend hours reading conflicting advice and hear about ‘tricks’ that guarantee results. We’re here to demystify the process and help you know exactly what you need to do to represent you and your book in the best light.
By the end of this 3-hour workshop you will:
Learn how to compose a query letter with tried and tested templates.
Create a crystal clear pitch that gets an agent’s attention.
Practice pitching to an editor and agent and get real-time feedback.

Fiction or memoir writers with an idea or draft manuscript who want to learn how to pitch a literary agent.
Any writers who are curious about the process of pitching a book to the publishing industry.
What we'll cover:
1. Pitching 101: We’ll cover the role of an agent, the types of agents, and the essential elements of a query letter.
2. Apply the Knowledge & Build Your Pitch: You’ll have dedicated time to draft your pitch and query letter with assistance from your hosts.
3. Pitch to an Agent/Editor: We'll ask for volunteers to pitch your query letter to our guest Literary Agent Charlotte Colwill from Collwill & Peddle and get live feedback on what’s working and what to improve. If you don't get live feedback, you'll be able to submit your letter to the agent for offline feedback.

Guest Literary Agent: Charlotte Colwill
Charlotte Colwill began her career as a bookseller and book buyer before making the switch to agenting. She has worked at Tibor Jones, for Wilbur Smith's agent and worked editorially on his co-written recent works. She has also worked at Jo Unwin Literary Agency, with Rachel Mann's roster of clients which includes Eliza Clark, Caleb Femi and Jack Meggitt-Phillips. Since 2018 she has run her own literary agency Colwill & Peddle representing a wide range of fiction, children's and non-fiction writers. She is very editorially-minded as an agent and loves to work closely with authors to craft their writing into brilliant, commercially viable books.
