Understanding, building & measuring power
Many leaders and organisers in the UK are clear that we need a new approach to solving the challenges we face and believe that we need to be building power, rather than just putting forward new policy solutions or having large rallies.
But many of us struggle to be clear about what building power might look like concretely, and to measure it well to ensure we’re making progress. Because you optimise for what you measure, if you're reporting on things that don't measure power, energy is not being focused where it is most needed.
This is an event for UK movement folks organising to build power, looking to better understand how power operates and how it can be measured.
- We will dive into some key ways of understanding power and why people-centered movements are essential to building it
- We’ll explore the difference between potential power and power being exercised in the world, and how to measure each
- Everyone participating will have the opportunity to apply learnings directly to their work
The training will be led by Jane Booth-Tobin, experienced trainer and organiser, Co-Director of the P3 Lab with Dr Hahrie Han at the John Hopkins University, and supported by Natasha Adams, consultant specialising in people powered change, movement research and strategy.
This is a training for people already organising. If you're not already working on campaigns in some way it won't be the right training for you.
Tickets are charged on a sliding scale as follows:
Large orgs (annual budget £2m+): £250
Medium orgs (annual budget circa £500k): £200
Small orgs (annual budget circa £100K): £150
Grassroots/Unwaged organiser: £5+ (more of a donation welcome if you have it)
Please note I will be unable to respond to queries about this event from 14th-28th March as I'll be offline on a retreat. I'll get back to inquiries as soon as possible after then.
